Well, it's finally here: Windows Vista! Microsoft hasn't had this major an OS launch since the release of Windows 95. I for one am excited. With this launch, Microsoft rolls all of their major OSes into one: TabletPC, Media Center, and the professional bits. I attended a Vista install fair a few months back to help with hardware installation issues, so I'm eligible for a free copy of Vista Ultimate! In addition, I've signed up for a business launch event on 2/1/2007 at which I'll be given a free copy of the brand spanking new Office 2007, Professional Edition. And tonight, from 10pm to 2am, there's a party at CompUSA on Market street. Yeah, I'm getting my geek on this week!
For those who are considering Vista, there are two qualifiers for the full experience. 1) You need a gig or more of memory in your computer and 2) Your video card should have 128mb of memory and support DirectX 9. Nearly all pcs released in the last couple years meet or exceed these requirements. Most others can be raised to meet the bar pretty inexpensively.
Vista promises a lot for TPC users, both in increased functionality and visibility. The future is wide open.
