Marketing Stephen King

image

Just got an e-mail this morning about a very cool marketing/advertising campaign for Stephen King's next collection, "Just After Sunset", due in November. In conjunction with Marvel Comics and others, they're running an "animated" video of a story, N, from the upcoming collection. Each day, beginning today, and running through August 29th, there will be a new "chapter" in the saga to view. You can view it from their site, or via you cell phone (if you have the right plan/services). The first episode is beautifully drawn, but very short. Too short? Maybe. Only time will tell. This kind of marketing is definitely not meant for me. I bet it works for many folks though, particularly younger folks.

I'm not part of the target audience either, as I've been sold on King for 25 years!

Yeah, I think they're going for the youth market, which is cool, as growing one's audience this late in a career (years after he "retired"), is pretty special.

I stopped reading Stephen King after I began having nightmares from reading his books. I can't handle anything horror at all now.

So I'm definitely not part of his target audience.

About Me

This is me and one of my two cats. His name is Cougar, and he’s an F1 Chausie. A chausie is a new breed of cat under development. Chausies are the result of a cross between a domestic cat (in Cougar’s case, a Bengal) and a jungle cat (Felis Chaus). Cougar’s mom is 8 pounds and his father is a 30-pound jungle cat. He’s about 16 pounds, super intelligent, spirited, and toilet trained. A writer without a cat (or two) is not to be trusted.
