Violated by the Royal Family! And I Didn’t Like It!

violation I’ve been having trouble with my firewall on my tablet…it’s been failing to start and well, I’ve put off fixing it. It’s only been a couple weeks, but yesterday I paid for being so lax.

I was working in one of my favorite cafes on California Street (Cafe Bazaar), and all of a sudden I heard a little buzz and a box opened telling me that there was another computer nearby and I could now transfer files if I wanted to. I looked up and around, and wasn’t sure who I was connected with. This was NOT a wifi connection but an IR connection. My tablet, a Lenovo Thinkpad, has an IR port. Not sure they’re all that necessary these days, but they’re still around. Put two laptops with IR ports side by side and well, they begin to chatter with each other. I’ve seen it before, used it even, so I just ignored it and went about my business.

Until I noticed, in my Documents folder, a folder I didn’t remember. It was called “Family.Show”. I opened it, and low and behold there was photos of the royal family and Word docs on each member. I was confused. Where in the hell did this come from? Could the person with the IR connection have sent them to me? Don’t I have to say “yes” to a transmission? Was it a virus? The royal family virus?

Okay, it doesn’t look like a virus, but earlier today, I fixed the firewall problem. I’m still a bit confused, because when I’ve used IR in the past I distinctly remember having to acknowledge and approve any file transfers. Really, freaky strange. But yeah, the firewall is back up and it’s going to stay that way.

Weird, those IR connections need to be fairly close to work and afaik they do require permission to transfer files. I honestly have no idea how you got those files in your computer. Maybe your cats mess about w/ your pc while you sleep? And they're into privileged inbreds of course...

Yeah, it had to be the guy sitting at the table next to me. When it happened, I looked over at him but he seemed deep in whatever he was doing, so I ignored it and went back to work...hmm...he didn't look like an anglophile, but you never know. Heh.

About Me

My photo
This is me and one of my two cats. His name is Cougar, and he’s an F1 Chausie. A chausie is a new breed of cat under development. Chausies are the result of a cross between a domestic cat (in Cougar’s case, a Bengal) and a jungle cat (Felis Chaus). Cougar’s mom is 8 pounds and his father is a 30-pound jungle cat. He’s about 16 pounds, super intelligent, spirited, and toilet trained. A writer without a cat (or two) is not to be trusted.
