Make Mine Iron Man

ironman_hand.jpgThere are two kinds of super heroes: radioactive mutants and mad scientists. Most are a little of both, but lean more toward one camp than the other. Iron Man is part of the latter group, and I was more than a little skeptical going in because that camp generally leaves me wanting.

Turned out to be one of the best super hero movies I've ever seen for two reasons: a dynamite script and amazingly good acting from all. Really. In fact, the only time the film lagged and got downright boring was during the absurd final battle scene, but right after it ended, the movie picked up where it left off and the final scenes were more of the good stuff.

The most amazing thing about this movie is that you buy it, kind of, despite the fact that the technology used is so next century and impossible as to be laughable. But the dialog is so sharp and witty and human that you forgive the lapses in logic and reality and just grin along for the ride.

This is an origin story, as expected, but unlike most, where you find yourself wishing they would just move along and get to the "action'; not this time. The "action" is the origin story.

If Iron Man is an indication of the summer ahead, we're in for a good one. I give it an A-

I'm glad to hear that it's good. The trailer looked pretty good but I've been disappointed before. Certainly with the Hulk and Daredevil and Electra.

About Me

My photo
This is me and one of my two cats. His name is Cougar, and he’s an F1 Chausie. A chausie is a new breed of cat under development. Chausies are the result of a cross between a domestic cat (in Cougar’s case, a Bengal) and a jungle cat (Felis Chaus). Cougar’s mom is 8 pounds and his father is a 30-pound jungle cat. He’s about 16 pounds, super intelligent, spirited, and toilet trained. A writer without a cat (or two) is not to be trusted.
